Scientific Illustration

The Ecological Cascades Lab at the University of Queensland undertakes research on the wildlife of South East Asia. I was resident artist in 2020-2021 and illustrated the scientific publications for the group. Through analysing camera trap footage we were able to document which animals were where and when. A number of peer reviewed manuscripts were published all illustrated with unique illustrations enhancing the scientific manuscripts. Forty-seven animals were illustrated in total. These illustrations were completed in Procreate and were all digital. This allowed me to work with the researchers and adapt the illustrations to meet what they were learning and needing for their manuscripts in real time. It was a fantastic project, I learnt so much about the wildlife and as a scientist myself had many very interesting conversations with the other researchers.
